COMMUNITY RULES

We list these specific items, so you can have a general understanding of what is and isn't allowed. There is no realistic way to itemize each and every single thing and new situations can arise in immediate exclusions and/or additions to the rules mentioned below.

summary: dont be a douche bag! People here are generally nice - so be nice back and you'll fit right in :]

1. NO RACIST OR OTHERWISE HATEFUL MESSAGES!
Subject matter of a racist/stereotypical tone or topics that will incite hateful responses will not be tolerated.

2. NO PERSONAL ATTACK
Criticize the ideas, not the people. If it is evident that your general behavior on Asian-U.com is to be disruptive in nature, then you will be warned and/or banned. This includes (but not limited to) constant instigation of arguments among/between other members, persistent flaming of others, persistent expression of anti Asian-U sentiments, etc.
2.1. Do not accuse people of being fake if you do not have hard evidence. For more details, see rule 5.1

3. NO SPAMMING
If it is evident that a member's primary intention on Asian-U.com is to advertise another website/referrals, they will be banned immediately. This goes for posts, PM's, signatures, avatars, etc. Posts/Topics will be deleted.
3.1. Recruiting people to join another site is considered spamming even if it's not intended.

4. NO SEXUALLY EXPLICIT MATERIAL
Just think about your little sister, or your little bro that might be coming to this website. Keep it clean!

5. NO DUPLICATE ACCOUNTS
If we catch you with multiple accounts, we will delete all of your additional accounts, and potentially your main account as well, depending on the nature of the violation.

5.1 FAKE ACCOUNTS
In general, do not accuse people of being fake (a person who's out to fool people and pretend to be someone they're not). The only time you can report a fake account is if the fake account is using a picture of you or some one you know. You or that someone can prove it with a fansign (a non photoshopped picture of you with the word "asian-u.com/YourUserName")

If you claim you're a celebrity, please post a fan sign with the word "asian-u.com/username". This can be done privately via a private message.

To justify this, here's an example: If someone were to create an account and claim they're Britney Spears, and someone else posts a topic criticizing Britney Spears, moderators obviously cannot take down that topic just because "Britney's account" felt attacked.

It's OK if you use a picture of a celebrity, just don't claim you're them.

Any account that's been proven to be fake will be deleted.

6. DO NOT ABUSE EDITING PRIVILEGES
Starting a thread, not liking how it turns out, and then deleting your own posts is irresponsible and unfair, and an actionable offense. It's simply not cool to troll users and then delete it, acting as if nothing has happened.

7. POST IN THE RIGHT FORUM
Make sure you start your topic in the right forum. If none of the forum fits your topic, post it in Talk Thread.

9. RESPECT THE PRIVACY OF OTHERS
Do not post other member's private phone numbers, addresses, pictures, etc., without their express permission.

10. USE DESCRIPTIVE SUBJECT LINE
This reduces the chances of double-posting, and it also makes it easier for people to see what they do/don't want to read.

COMPLAINTS
Please respect and abide by the decisions of the moderators. If you feel that a moderator/administrator has wrongfully judged your behavior and/or actions then you have the option to appeal "once" to an alternate administrator. The outcome to your appeal is final and any further active objections will result in a warning. Appeals MUST contain a concise description of what you are being accused of and why you feel that the mod/admin's decision is wrong. Also, as much as you may disagree, please DO NOT write your appeal out of emotional distress or anger (vulgar remarks, rudeness, etc). If you want us to be fair and reasonable, then we expect you to be mature in your response.

MODERATION RULES

Forum moderators are not police officers
Many see the main role of moderators as enforcers of the site rules, as people who delete posts they don’t like and lock topics the moment they run off-course. This is not the case on Asian-U.com.

Forum moderators is here to promote interaction.
Moderators must never repress the community. AU moderators adopts a laissez-faire approach and allows members a large amount of freedom. The primary role of a forum moderator is be to promote interaction. They are here to help out members with their queries.

Most moderators on other forums see themselves as forum police officers and will only edit/delete/lock content without creating any themselves. This is not the case here on AU. Moderators know that their primary role is to encourage interaction, to encourage member involvement, and to encourage a sense of community within our forum.

why forum moderation is necessary
If we don’t moderate our forum, it is likely to be overwhelmed with spam.

Many feel moderation is in place to prevent arguments and abuse between members - we don’t disagree with this view; we feel it’s an important role but one that should come secondary to dealing with forum spammers.

Spam and abusive posts are detrimental to our online community -we must moderate our forums to prevent irreversible damage from taking place.
