SHINee, f(x), and more for Hallyu Event in Japan

The old guard of the Hallyu movement (Korean Wave) including Bae Yong Joon, Lee Byung Hun, and Song Seung Hun have been very successful in Japan. The old guard is very popular with the older women in Japan, mainly housewives… However the wave hasn’t really resonated with the younger demographic in Japan. There’s TVXQ / DBSK / Tohoshinki and Big Bang but their integration is more on the lines of blending in and being J-pop artists rather than relying on Hallyu.

To catch this lucrative market more entertainment companies in Korea are holding various events in Japan. To further capitalize on this, here’s an event that should get the teenagers excited. In April, SM Entertainment groups SHINee and f(x), Boys Over Flowers stars Kim Bum and Goo Hye Sun, along with T-Max will get together in Yokohama for two events targeted at the new generation. The first event is titled New Generation – Live in Yokohama - and will be held at the Pacifico Yokohama Hall on April 24th. The second event is titled Boys Over Flowers Last Event – Graduation - and will be held at the Pacifico Yokohama Hall on April 25th.

2NE1’s Minzy & Big Bang’s Seungri voted as kpop’s maknae idols

Popular fashion print CeCi magazine recently took a poll for kpop’s top maknae idols, and the YG Entertainment fam really took the cake with this one – the youngest members of 2NE1 & Big Bang, Minzy and Seungri, both topped the results with ample lead over their competition!

For this poll, Minzy was pitted against Sohee of the Wonder Girls, Jiyoung of Kara, Sohyun of 4minute, Seohyun of SNSD, Jiyeon of T-ara, UEE of After School and Krystal of f(x). Seungri beat out Dongho of U-Kiss, Taemin of SHINee, Chansung of 2PM, Mir of MBLAQ, Jinwoon of 2AM, Kyuhyun of Super Junior and Minhwan of FT Island.

Currently, the poll has closed for all but four contestants (who are all coincidentally SME artists) - SHINee’s Taemin, Super Junior’s Kyuhyun, SNSD’s Seohyun and f(x)’s Krystal are still in the competition to compete for second and third place.

SHINee’s manager assaults fan girl

After exposing CNBLUE’s manager giving a beating to a fan girl, more cases of violent managers have been popping up all over the internet.

The latest is a clip of SHINee’s manager shoving and pushing a girl by her head. Which makes people wonder if that was really necessary, as she seems to be a harmless little girl.

SM Entertainment responded, “It seems this SHINee video is from their schedule during August of last year. We apologize to fans for this sort of unbelievable behavior. We will do everything in our power to prevent such incidents, and of course at the company level all managers will comply. Again, we are deeply sorry.”

Although a stars’ well being is important, think about the innocent fan girl getting pummeled for no apparent reason. How would you feel if that was your child?

KPOP Groups nominated for the 7th Korean Music Awards, SHINee is nominated!

K-pop stars Girls Generation, 2NE1, Brown Eyed Girls, SHINee, Kara, Epik High and Baek Ji-young are the only commercial K-pop artists that have garnered nominations in the 7th Korean Music Awards.

Considered as a counterculture and anti-mainstream music awards body, the Korean Music Awards emphasizes on music as an art form and recognizes mostly non-commercial and independent singers in South Korea.

Except for the seven, the KMA shut out major label singers in South Korea where mainstream K-pop artists dominate the scene.

The nominees were selected by a committee that focused solely on the musical value of the artists' songs and not on album sales or popularity.

All-female K-pop groups Girls Generation (aka SNSD) and Brown Eyed Girls snagged three nominations each.

Girls Generation's hit song "Gee" and Brown Eyed Girls' "Abracadabra" are nominated for Song of the Year along with the 3rd Line Butterfly's "A Heavy Night Fog," The Black Skirts' "Like Me," Broccoli, You Too's "Universal Song" and Lee Sora's "Track 8."

Girls Generation is also nominated in the Best Pop Song for "Tell Me Your Wish" and Best Dance and Electronic Song for "Gee."

Brown Eyed Girls also bagged nominations in the Best Dance and Electronic Album for "Sound G" and Best Dance and Electronic Song for "Abracadabra".

2NE1 is going to bring back their debut days for Show! Music Core.

On the February 20th broadcast of MBC’s Show! Music Core, 2NE1 will be having a special stage for Music Core’s 200th episode. This special episode of Music Core will also include SNSD / Girls’ Generation, CNBLUE, 2PM, Kara, SHINee, Brown Eyed Girls, Baek Ji Young, After School, and Lee Eun Mi.

The 200th episode will include a special stage for all the idol groups, with each group performing their debut songs.

2NE1 will be performing Fire, SNSD will sing Into the New World, 2PM will rock out 10 out of 10 and SHINee will make noonas go crazy with Noona is so pretty (Replay).

For this momentous occasion, regular MC’s Tiffany and Yuri of SNSD have called in a little backup from CNBLUE.

2PM and SHINee will also have a special dance battle stage titled ‘Dance History.’

In addition, SNSD, Kara and After School will have a joint special stage performing Lee Hyori’s U Go Girl, Boa’s My Name and Son Dambi’s Crazy.

SHINee’s Onew to be a musical star

SHINee’s leader Onew will join the list of idols-turned-musical-stars with his lead role of Joo-Bong in Brothers Were Brave from April 1st to June 20th in Coex Theaters.

The musical, which was first opened in 2008, was critically acclaimed. It was based on two brothers that never got along, who went back to their hometown to find a hefty fortune in their father’s will. The two grow closer during their adventure. The younger sibling, which will be played by Onew, feels like he got the short end of the stick. He has a bit of a temper, but is a highly educated man, having graduated from Seoul University, known to be Korea’s best university. During their adventure, the two set their differences aside and eventually develop a strong brotherly relationship with one another.

In his first musical, Onew will also be partaking in a kiss scene, surprising many people, but building even more anticipation.

The production staff said, “Onew is doing a musical for the first time. Jessica of SNSD was very successful with Legally Blonde even though it was her first time as well. These days, the idols are very good in the fields of singing and dancing. Not only that, they try very hard at everything they do so I think he will do great.”

SM Entertainment, Onew’s company, said, “After he got cast for this musical, he started practicing his singing, dancing and acting. He is working hard to bring a nice performance on stage.”

SHINee leader Onew, surprising Abs Show? SHINee Onew recently revealed the hidden washboard(!) Abs while he was washing duvets during the record of KBS JOY ?SHINee?s Hello Baby. The group was divided into two teams, one team went to hospital to get immunization for Yoogeuni and one to wash the duvets and while the member Jonghyun was washing, he joked, ?Hyung, your abs are washboards, take your top off so I can wash with your abs.? At this, Onew has shown his unique sense by pulling his stomach out on purpose and made his surrounding full of laughter. On the other hand, you could see the love towards Yoogeun by looking at the members, whose hand washing for the first time in their lives (adding too much washing powder than they are suppose to, dropping the washing on the floor etc), trying and putting their best effort in this cold weather, warming their freezing hands. SHINee with Singaporean "Teen Magazine

Dressed in their gothic punk ?Ring Ding Dong? outfits, SHINee made their debut appearance to the Singapore media on a sunny Saturday morning, at Esplanade?s Theatre Main Foyer.

As journalists from various media platforms shot their questions to the ?man? band wannabe ? SHINee, and to other prominent Korean figures present (which includes Bobby Kim and Oh Joonsung), SHINee stands out at the shyest bunch. Most of the time, it was Onew and Minho speaking up, while the rest of the members sat there quietly with their heads hung low.

However, these pretty boys seemed to be a different group of people all together when teens snagged a short 10-minute ?closed-door ?interview with them after the media conference. They are actually a fun-loving boy band that loves to poke fun of each other in front of the media!

Teens: What kind of shiny objects does SHINee like?
SHINee: Spotlight!

Onew and Jonghyun Apologize for Not Knowing How to do the Laundry

Onew and Jonghyun on February 24th's broadcast of KBS JOY "SHINee's Hello Baby" keep their son Yoogeuni's health leading health and cleanliness to be shared between two teams. Responsible for cleanliness Onew and Jonghyun hand wash with gloves Yoogeuni's laundry despite the extremely cold weather outside.

Though Minho's neck-grabbing was not serious, the graffiti on their photographs made them seek revenge, the situation ended up vandalizing each other's photographs with more graffiti from one graffiti piece turning a serious situation into a sea of laughter.

Kara’s dads choose SNSD as their daughters’ rivals

Kara’s Han Seungyeon and Kang Jiyoung were guests on a Sunday Sunday Night’s Our Father special in which their dads were featured as extra special guests.

When the MCs asked who Kara’s rivals were in their opinion, they answered SNSD. They also chose Brown Eyed Girls’ Ga-In and f(x)’s Sulli as idols they liked other than their own daughters.

They surprised their daughters by coming out in Mister outfits and even danced to the song. Seungyeon commented that she could feel their age in the dance.

The fathers also picked who they would like as son-in-laws. Seungyeon’s dad chose SHINee’s Onew and Jiyoung’s dad chose SS501’s Kim Hyung Joon and Super Junior’s Siwon.

Dongho, Eli, Thunder and Key to host a new variety show

Idol groups’ finest, U-Kiss’ Dongho and Eli, Shinee’s Key, and Mblaq’s Thunder will all be getting together as hosts for a new variety show.

This new show, Raising an Idol, will be shown through a cable channel and the first filming is set for the 5th.

In response to the news of this new variety show, fans have been commenting, “What kind of program is ‘Raising an Idol’?” “It’s not another program where they date girls, right?” and “I’m looking forward to seeing them on a variety show.”

A representative stated, “Dongho, Eli, Key, and Thunder have been chosen as Raising an Idol’s members. Raising an Idol will be a reality program where these idol stars will be using their knowledge and skills. We believe that the members will do well despite their young age, because they have a lot of talent.”

What do you want to say to your Singapore fans?

FT Island: We’re very thankful for their support. When we came to Singapore for the first time, we were very shocked to see so many fans waiting for us at the airport, even when it’s nearly 12am.

SHINee: We’re really surprised to see so many people coming to support us.

All of you are born in the 90s and are currently students. Between studies and singing career, which one will you choose?

FT Island: (giving the same answer) Because it’s hard to cope with both, we’ve decided to focus on our career. We do not attend schools regularly anymore, but we do go for some language courses occasionally.

SHINee: Sometimes our schedules are very packed, so we had no choice but to skip certain classes. If we have to make a choice…… (Members started discussing, but couldn’t come to a conclusion so the translator ended it off with “they each have their own choices”).

Would you like to act in Korean dramas?

FT Island: Our vocalist, Lee Hongki, was casted as “Jeremy” in the drama “You’re Beautiful” last year, and all of us were envious of him. However, we believe that Hongki’s participation in the drama helps to bring up the popularity of the band, increasing the exposure of FT Island.

SHINee: If we have a chance to be casted, we’ll be glad to accept the role. We’ve seen some good examples earlier, like, SS501’s popularity went up because of Kim Hyunjoong’s participation in “Boys Over Flowers”.

As idols, have you ever thought of dating?

FT Island: (answered instantly) Yes! Though we do not have girlfriends now, but we do want to get one!

SHINee: Have not thought about this before. Singing career has been our dream since young and we only want to work hard now, so we didn’t think have time to think of other things……

On a recent episode of KBS JOY’s SHINee’s Hello Baby!, Jonghyun has revealed his celebrity crush after being crowned as the Best Father. He was given a chance to select a female star to make a special appearance on the set as their child’s daily mother.

“I want Lee Min Jung and Shin Se Kyung to visit us,” he confessed.

Whether these two starlets will really make a special appearance on the show remains uncertain. Considering their immense popularity, their appearance would definitely skyrocket the ratings.

Singapore gets ready for SHINee fever again

Having been welcomed warmly by thousand of fans on their last visit in late January, popular idol group SHINee will be descending on the shores of Singapore again this weekend where a similar situation will probably ensue.

SHINee will be making an appearance at the Singapore Entertainment Awards 2010, scheduled on March 13th at the Marina Bay floating platform. They will probably be picking up an award and do some performance.

The objective of the Singapore Entertainment Awards is to support the Chinese entertainment industry that popularises the use of the Chinese language. Apart from honouring the best talents in Singapore and Asia, it also helps to promote the local and regional Chinese entertainment scene. The award presentation cum concert will be telecast on Starhub Cable TV after the event at a later date.

Besides that, SHINee will also have an exclusive showcase on the afternoon of March 14th at IMM Level 3 Garden Plaza. For fans who already bought an album for their fan signing a few weeks ago, they would have to buy the album again on March 13th to get access to the showcase. Only 3,000 tickets are available for the showcase.

SHINee will return to Korea on the 15th, where they will work on their new album.

This came rather late but with the technology of today, nothing stays a secret once it’s recorded.

Pat Cruz, Shaun Evaristo’s Fellow Movement Lifestyle Choreographer has recently launched a tirade against Korean idol boy group, SHINee for apparently stealing his dance moves. He expressed that the dance cheoreography that SHINee used for their Just Dance performance at the KBS Song Festival last December, were taken from their WOD Pomona video.

Top 5 Most Wanted Boys for Spring in Seoul Star Magazine

Spring is coming and which idol star do you want spend your season with? Seoul Star Magazine had conducted a poll for their March 2010 issue and check out the idol males who came on top!

COOL: Among the members, you have the most solo songs. What do you think about this?
Onew: Of course I think it?s a great opportunity. (laugh) Even though it feels great to do activities together with the other members, I can show another side of myself with a solo song. I think it?s a pretty good thing.

COOL: As the leader, what about you makes the other members feel at ease?
Onew: Really hard question?..(talks with the translator twice) I?..can often make the members laugh. Ah! Really hard!

COOL: What do you think is the most important thing about being an artist?
Onew: You must have your own dreams. No matter if you?re standing on stage, or just practicing daily, you always have to think you?re the best. Even if it?s not like that now, you have to believe you will achieve it someday, and always work hard.

COOL: Idol Maknae Rebellion received a really good response in Korea. As SHINee?s maknae, have you ever shown any rebellious behaviour?
Taemin: I don?t think I?ve ever really rebelled before. The hyungs take care of me, so even if there is a temporary disagreement, we?ll talk it out to solve it.

COOL: As the maknae, what do you envy the most about your hyungs?
Taemin: All the members except for me have become adults, these days I want to grow up quickly, to become an adult soon. But in terms of envying them, I don?t think there?s anything. Rather, the hyungs envy me a little because I?m the most youthful. (laugh)

COOL: On year-end shows you performed some MJ dances. Are you satisfied with your performances?
Taemin: I personally really like and respect MJ. Even though I frequently imitate his dances on stage, there is something regrettable each time. There hasn?t been a performance I?m satisfied with before, but I?m happy to be able to imitate the sunbae I respect the most on stage.

Key: Right now I haven?t thought about it, but if there?s an opportunity in the future, I will perform it for everyone.

COOL: What do you think should always be preserved?
Key: Freedom, doing whatever you want to do.

COOL: So on shows you can say anything.
Key: My personality was always like that.

COOL: You did well!
Key: Hahaha?..but the hyungs have been unhappy about it before.

COOL: It feels like you have a lot of ideas about fashion design.
Key: Yes, I contributed a lot of my ideas when shooting for our mini-album. Usually the members would also exchange ideas.

COOL: Do you take care of your appearance a lot? What is the most important? Point? Of outer appearance?
Key: All of it. I think you have match from head to toe. You?re most handsome when you coordinate everything.

COOL: As Dream Team?s ace, you interact really well with your sunbaes. What have you learned from them?
Minho: I'm the youngest there, and the age gap between the sunbaes is pretty big. They always give me a lot of advice, like how to do variety shows well, how to make it interesting, and encourage me with things like that. Doing the show is not only fun, I also learned a lot of things I normally wouldn?t learn, it?s a really good show.

COOL: Even though it's been said that you were scouted because of your outstanding looks (other members: hahahaha!), you've made a lot of improvement since debut. What have you personally worked hard at?
Minho: Before going on stage I would practice a lot, and I would also discuss a lot with my members. Through experience on-stage, I would become better at performing. I began recognizing my strengths and weaknesses, and would practice continuously to improve them.

COOL: Your performance in shows like Star King have been getting better and better. Which side of you would you want to show to everyone the most?
Minho: I want to show my personal charm. It would be better to say I want everyone to see SHINee?s different sides. Every time I?m on a show, I would work hard to perform well. Since variety shows are there to make everyone happy, I will try hard to create joy.

Jonghyun: I usually practice a lot, so when I?m performing on stage it becomes easy.

COOL: Other than singing, do you have another personal talent?
Jonghyun: My favourite thing seems to only be singing, I?m also learning how to write lyrics and compose songs. After I?m developed enough in these areas, I want to show another side of me.

COOL: Everyone said they could see Jonghyun?s limitless possibility through ?Juliette?, what do you think?
Jonghyun: Of course I'm very thankful.

COOL: Will you continue to try and master this type of activity?
Jonghyun: Of course, I'm still only beginning to learn. I will work hard from now on.

COOL: Jonghyun's singing is full of uniqueness. As a singer, which do you think is most important among voice, technique, and composing ability?
Jonghyun: I think as a singer, you need emotion when doing a musical piece. No matter if you?re a lyricist or a composer, I think this is really important.

COOL: What kind of music do you want to do the most?
Jonghyun: R&B, music that people can relate to.

COOL: Your voice is really suitable for it.
Jonghyun: Xie xie! (Thank you!)

SHINING ABILITIES

COOL: What were your feelings when you saw so many fans at the airport the first time you came to Changsha?

All: Oh~~~~~~~ (sigh)
Taemin: With so many fans receiving us the first time we came here, first of all thank you to everyone for knowing us (laugh). Since we have never officially performed in China, we thought it was really unbelievable.
Onew: We stood on stage on January 1st, 2010 and met our Chinese fans, we are very happy. When we heard that all of the MCs on this station would be on this show, we were scared for a moment.

COOL: Everyone said after SHINee came, Changsha's weather also became lighter. You guys are really "shining"!

Jonghyun: Ah, really?
Key: That's really unbelievable.....
Onew: That's pretty good, not bad not bad. (laugh)

COOL: SHINee's image is really unique among Korean boy bands. It really resembles popular 90s European and American boy bands. Does everyone think this comparison is fitting?

Key: Apart from just now, no one has ever said it like that, thank you so much. Although, no matter if it's our musical style or appearance, we don't seem to have that type of vibe.

COOL: But when you guys first debuted, SM's PR representatives introduced you guys like that.

Jonghyun: Oh, you mean like N'Sync and the Backstreet Boys? (COOL: Yes!) Then there is some similarity. Our clothes more or less have some vintage trends. It seemed to fit us best, so it gradually became our unique image.

COOL: Do you like this type of image?

All: Mhm!! (lots of laughter)
Key: If everyone thinks it's good, it's good. (shy)
Manager: (butts in) They will continue to change to various images......
All: Yes!

COOL: In terms of your songs, you've incorporated a lot of European and American singing styles and sounds. Did you have any special training when you were trainees?

Jonghyun: We were trained in different types of vocalizations, even when we're talking we would also practice.

COOL: No matter if it's DBSK or Super Junior, they both encountered a period of difficulties after debut. But they were able to come back and become top groups, reaching the climax of their careers. As a second generation hoobae, SHINee has been popular since debut. I'm curious as to any difficulties you've encountered?

Taemin: From the beginning, we were all very hard-working, and learned a lot of things from our sunbaes. Although up until now, it doesn't seem like we've encountered any memorable difficult experiences. (laughs)

COOL: Everyone says, "Growth is completed rapidly during defeat." From debut until now, has anything happened to help you grow and develop?

Onew: The sunbaes often give us a lot of help. They will always tell us, "This was done very well, that was done very well", so we've never really been on the wrong path, we've gained a lot of benefits from them.
Taemin: Plus..........the sunbaes will often buy delicious food for us, haha.

COOL: "2009, Year of Us" brought a lot of changes to your style. What do the members think is the biggest change?

Onew: Appearance.
Key: First of all, on this album, there are a lot of things we personally like and always wanted to experiment with. The members' appearances have had some big changes. Actually there's nothing to hide, because everyone's image has become really different. From now on, we will continue to show our personality while showing an image that everyone can accept.
Minho: Please anticipate it! (laugh)

COOL: Did any of the members come up with the title "2009, Year of Us"? It's really powerful.....

Onew: Haha, we don't really have that kind of skill right now. (shy)

COOL: It's already 2010. Thinking back to 2009, was there anything that made you feel very proud? Use an example to prove that "This was our year".

Minho: Last year we won awards at music shows, the Popularity Award at the Golden Disk Awards. We also performed on many music award shows towards the end of the year. There are so many of these things, it's impossible to pick just one event. (worrying)
Jonghyun: Um......I think it's Minho's personality becoming more outgoing. Everyone thought of this, right? Haha!
Onew: Aigoo~ also in 2010 two people will become adults.

COOL: From SHINee's songs we can see SM Entertainment's strong song-writing abilities, this can be considered one of your styles. "Ring Ding Dong" is SHINee's first song that wasn't a European or American remake*. How did the members feel when they first heard the demo?

Onew: The feeling was super~ good.
Minho: I thought, "Ah, it's not a foreign song!"
Key: To be honest, when we first heard the demo, there were lots of emotions. Our songs have always been difficult, so we always try to overcome the pressure to digest it, it's the same this time.

*The interviewer is referring to the fact that Ring Ding Dong is the first song that SM didn't buy from foreign composers.

COOL: Everyone performed excellently though. Aside from the song, the choreography also created a reaction when it was revealed. Did you include any of your own ideas into the choreography?

Jonghyun: When it's our solo parts, everyone adds little movements. For example, everyone has their own unique hand gestures.
Taemin: There were a lot of deliberations for this choreography. Sometimes we would also have our own ideas, "Is it good to dance this part like that? Can we change that part?" This time, I suppose we added a lot of our own things to the choreography. (laugh)

COOL: Through this album, the members seemed have gone from "herbivorous men" to "omnivorous men". Specifically, what changes has everyone gone through?

Jonghyun: First of all, for this album, our appearance has changed a lot. During Juliette, from the clothes to the lyrics, it was more adult-like. It was mainly about the feelings of a man when he is confessing. This time, the lyrics are more mature, so it has the vibe of a boy becoming a man.

COOL: The follow-up song "JoJo" was not as powerful as the title song, it seemed to be completely different.

Jonghyun: "Ring Ding Dong" and "JoJo" are two pieces from different periods. Whether it has a vintage feel to it, or appearance-wise, the two songs are very different. "JoJo" wardrobe was more fashionable, it had a boy band feel. "Ring Ding Dong" was also very fashionable, though the song style is closer to SMP*. In these areas, you can feel the differences.

*SMP = SM Performance, basically Yoo Young Jin-type songs like BoA's "Girls On Top", Super Junior's "Don't Don", etc. (thanks live laugh love@soompi!)

COOL: Key and Minho's collaboration for "Get Down" really stands out in the album, what do you guys personally feel about it?

Minho: This is the first time we've included something like this in our albums, so we both thought our duet was very fresh, and very unique. Plus, we really like this style of song style, so we thought it was good when we performed together. It was a good experience.

COOL: Why did you think of Luna help you guys?

Minho: f(x) are our first hoobaes. They also like our songs, so for this collaboration, we are very thankful to them.

RANDOM TALK WITHIN THE GROUP

COOL: Since debut, have the groups' responsibilities changed?

Key: When we first debuted, the members' different personalities were not very apparent, so responsibilities weren't like that either. The members have always tried to work hard, with the mentality of never giving up. (shy)
Jonghyun: That doesn't seem like what the interviewer is asking?

COOL: Uh.........for example, who is responsible for the trivial things in the group? Like who is the "Morning Call"?

Minho: Jonghyun hyung.
Jonghyun: Actually it's our maknae Taemin.
All: Hahahahaha
Onew: As long as Taemin wakes us up, everyone will readily get out of bed.
Jonghyun: We lived together for a long time, so we already have unspoken agreements among each other.
Onew: Right, even if we don't speak, we know what to do once we make eye contact.

COOL: Then one by one, use a "serial killing" method to comment on a member and then give him new year's greetings, how about that?

Onew: If you have anything to say, then say it! Hahaha...
Taemin: Then I'll go first! Minho, first of all he's really tall (Jonghyun laughs), overall he's a very handsome person. How should I say this (looks at Minho for a long time), he's good at motivating other people. His singing voice is very charming, I personally think his voice is very magnetic. And when he's on stage, he can capture people's attention very quickly. He can let people focus on his role of charisma in an instant.

COOL: Do you have any new year's greetings for Minho?

Taemin: Ah! Happy new year! (laughing) You're an adult this year, I hope you can show a handsome side to everyone. I will also learn from you. Let's make an effort together!
Minho: (after correcting his expression) Onew hyung's voice has a lot of charm, and is really warm. He also has a solo song on this album, I really like it. Even though this song was nice to begin with, when Onew hyung sang it, I was immediately immersed in it. When he's on shows his image is pretty good, I hope he can continue to have a positive attitude in 2010.

COOL: What do you think about Onew always falling down?

Minho: (serious) I hope he doesn't fall down anymore in 2010, please.
Onew: In 2010, I will grow taller..........
All: ............
Onew: Sorry! (heavy laughter ensues) Jonghyun, he is really charming when he sings. He always works hard in singing and dancing, and he is a very talented person. He is also very good at writing lyrics. After some time, I reckon a piece that will exceed everyone's expectations will surface. Last year he wrote lyrics for Juliette, hope he will make a lot of progress this year, and make his name more well-known.
Jonghyun: A friend like Key has a lot of talent, and a strong sense of fashion, he has his own opinions on this matter. When faced with a challenge, he definitely would not skip over it, but work hard to overcome it. How can he be good at all these things? Key: My personality was outgoing in the first place, so if I have something to say I will say it, my personality is like that. Let's talk about our Taemin! He is really cute and useful as a maknae. He's always been hard- working, so not just in 2010, it doesn't matter which year, he will always be a child worth anticipating! COOL: What are you wishes for the new year?

Onew: My greatest wish is for everyone to be healthy.
Jonghyun: Yes, health is most important.

COOL: Who looks after his body the best?

Jonghyun: All of the members look after their health.
Onew: We're pretty good at that!

COOL: Even though you're young, you're pretty good at looking after yourselves!

All: That doesn't have anything to do with age! (laughter)

COOL: What present do you want to receive for the new year?

Jonghyun: Um...(to Onew) what kind of present do you want?
Onew: I want a house.

COOL: Just now we saw you watching the broadcast about Super Junior's concert for a long time. Have you had any similar plans recently?

Onew: Right now we don't have plans for a concert, but if the opportunity comes along we really want to do it.

COOL: If the opportunity arises, what kind of stage would you prepare for everyone?

Jonghyun: We'd have to plan carefully for this, I imagine we'd have to at least go into intense practice.
Key: If we had the opportunity to have a concert, we would definitely deliver the most spectacular performances for everyone, though.....we really want to have a concert, so please hurry and give us an opportunity!

COOL: Are you ever jealous of your Super Junior sunbaes having their own fixed shows? Which members have ambitions in this area?

Onew: Everyone has ambitions for this (laugh). I remember Key and I were radio DJs for a day, it was really interesting.
Key: Everyone is really ambitious about this, so every time we're on a show, it's an opportunity for us to showcase our abilities. We learned a lot of things from our sunbaes, so we hope to have good results like them.

COOL: Right now, there are a lot of Korean idol groups starting to enter the Japanese market. Do you have any similar plans?

Onew: We held some activities in Japan, and we will have a few fanmeetings in the future as well. This amount of activity doesn't really count as entering the Japanese market.

COOL: Are you familiar with Japanese songs?

All: ...............This, very hard! (worried hand gestures)
Jonghyun: They have a wide variety of music. It's a market that is full of energy.
Key: The music is full of personality, it's really great.
Onew: Even though every country has its own music industry, Japan's seems to be a bit more mature, right?
All: Right!

COOL: Whenever you guys are on stage, you're always very confident. Your live ability is also outstanding. If you were to go overseas, what would you be worried about the most?

Jonghyun: It doesn't have to be Japan, if we were to enter any overseas market, we would most worried about language.
Onew: Yes. At the very least we should learn how to say, "Mom, Dad, I miss you." (laugh)

COOL: This time it seems like everyone's level of Mandarin has improved, what Chinese phrase are you most confident about?

Onew: Thank you!

COOL: What is the most difficult thing about learning Mandarin?

Onew: Tones and pronounciation.
Jonghyun: Mandarin has four tones, it's really difficult.

COOL: A lot of fans say you're skinny.......

Onew: (interrupting) So they don't like us?
Jonghyun: (points at leader) You're being naughty!

COOL: Everyone is worried about your ideal types. Would you not like girls who are a little chubby?

Minho & Taemin: No, no!!!
Taemin: I don't really have any specific requirements for my ideal type, she should just be pretty and kind, it would definitely be best if she was a little perfect.
Minho: Kind, a person I can talk to, it would definitely be better if she was pretty. (blushes)
Onew: I like girls who are cute, have nice voices, pretty hands.

Onew: We're so happy to be in China on the first day of the new year, January 1st, 2010, meeting Chinese fans. This is a really meaningful event to us. In a recent poll on monkey3, the website asked, “Who do you want to get a candy kiss from on White Day?” White Day is a romantic holiday in Korea where the guy gives his girlfriend presents such as candy, etc.

The candy kiss is referring to the infamous kiss that Lee Byung Hun and Kim Tae Hee shared on IRIS where he passed a piece of candy with his mouth to her mouth.

Our world star Rain won 40% of the votes and came in 1st place. More than 1,000 people voted for this perfect man. Netizens reasoned, “He seems like a good kisser,” “His kiss scenes are just as good as Lee Byung Hun’s,” and “Thinking about Rain giving me a candy kiss makes my heart flutter.”

We’ve seen quite a flood of cute & innocent concepts in kpop over the few years; it’s like some initiation process that Korean pop idols have to undergo or something. There’s T-ara with Bo Peep Bo Peep, TVXQ with Balloons, Kara with Honey, SNSD with like… everything; you get the idea.

Recently, a poll was taken by kpop fans in Thailand revealing the top idols of kpop that pulled off the innocent concept best. The top winner was none other than SNSD’s maknae Seohyun, an idol that we’ve definitely been seeing more often these days!

Seohyun was followed by fellow SME fam maknae Taemin of SHINee, then 2PM’s Thai prince Nichkhun. Jiyoung of Kara followed closely in fourth place, and Junsu of TVXQ placed in fifth. YoonA, Sohee (Wonder Girls) and Seungri (Big Bang) also managed to grab spots in the Top Ten rankings as well.

KARA Nicole, "I received motivation from a male idol to lose weight"

KARA Nicole confessed that she has received motivation from a male idol to lose weight.

Nicole was on SBS Strong Heart aired on 23rd March when she said, "He is a male idol whom I can converse coolly with."

She added, "That friend looked at me and said 'When will you lost weight?'" and Nicole replied "You don't have to worry. Since we do video call, you can only see the face." rousing much curiosity amongst the guest speak on Strong Heart as to who this male idol is.

And after being asked by the guest appearance, Nicole gave a hint to who the male idol is. MC Kang HoDong asked, "Is the guy tall? Or short?". Nicole answered "키 (which means height in Korean but is also the name of SHINee Key".

With this incident, it was revealed that Nicole is close friend to SHINee Key.

Meanwhile, on the show, Nicole revealed an episode during her dieting which had caused much laughter amongst the guest appearances.

Idol group members turning out for Haha and MC Mong’s new show

We already announced that these days’ hottest idols will be joining Haha and MC Mong for their new upcoming show HahaMong Show. You might have seen Big Bang’s Seungri and Daesung and the Brown Eyed Girls in the fancams from our previous story but you don’t know about the other amazing idols that will also be present.

This first episode will feature Big Bang’s Seungri and Daesung, Brown Eyed Girls’ Ga-In and Narsha, SNSD’s Sooyoung and Hyoyeon, and SHINee’s Key. Like we said before, comedian Kim Shin Young will be present as well.

The theme song for the show is very special because MC Mong wrote it himself! The show airs on the 30th so get ready.
